Our amazing Splash and Swim team
We have a great team of swim instructors at Splash and Swim. As part off our Safeguarding policy all swim instructors have undertaken a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and we hold up to date certificates for reference.
All Splash and Swim instructors have accredited Swim England/ASA Level 1 + 2 teaching qualifications, or equivalent and they have a lifesaving qualification.
(Lots of the instructors have the STA Level 2 Award in Safety Award for Teachers but it just says STA Safety.)
Swim England is the national governing body for swimming in England.

I initially qualified as a swimming teacher to be able to teach my son to swim, I then went on to take my ASA Level 2 Teaching Swimming qualification and made the decision to set up my own swim school. Splash and Swim was formed and named by 5 year old Lewis, “because you learn to splash and then you learn to swim”

Deryn Johnston
Deryn works primarily at Woodlawn school pool in West Monkseaton. She teaches the Little Splashers and Little Swimmers classes for the younger children on Thursday afternoons.
She also works with the Synergy Swim, adults session, on a Wednesday evening and is brilliant at helping those with a fear of the water.
Deryn also offers support to the learn to swim sessions and the development of instructors.

Joanne Sime
Joanne teaches at Woodlawn school on a Monday and Thursday afternoon at Woodlawn and on a Friday at Beacon Hill school.
She also runs the Synergy Swim development and fitness sessions on a Wednesday evening at Benfield Sports Centre.

Ellie teaches on a Monday and Thursday at Benfield Sports centre with our more advanced swimmers. She also teaches the babies on a Tuesday at Woodlawn and the Learn to swim sessions on a Friday at Beacon Hill.
